Mt Hood

After two long days of driving from North Dakota, we arrived at our next destination – Mt Hood Oregon. Because we have been driving longer that planned, we are actually two days ahead of our original plan. We are now 3,416 miles from home.

We pulled into Government Camp, OR, home of High Cascade Snowboard Camp. Two years ago Keegan attended the camp all by himself and you would have thought it was his homecoming! He enthusiastically showed us around his old stomping ground. We ran into a number of pro snowboarders and a lot of young campers who seemed to take over the little community. There was a group of pros giving away stuff to a crowd of onlookers and the boys walked away with several hoodies.

We are staying at the Mt Hood Village RV Resort during our stay. It is nicely wooded so it does not feel we are just in a line with other RVs on both sides of us. It is about 12 miles from Government Camp (who named this town?).

In the morning, the boys were up, showered and ready to go before the rest of the vehicle (a first for the trip) and we headed to Timberline Lodge Ski Area for a day of snowboarding. Unfortunately conditions were not optimal. There was a steady rain coming down which made the snow a bit slushy, but how often do you get to snowboard in July – so the boys went for it.

While the boys played in the snow, Sara, Michelle and Bill headed to the historic lodge for a bit to eat. Bill and Michelle had a spectacular brunch featuring Dungeness crab in many forms. We both felt this was the best brunch we had enjoyed in a long while.

After the boys returned, we headed back to Government Camp to hang out and dry our clothes. Tomorrow the weather is expected to be much better for a full day of snowboarding.

Keegan, be sure to tell Hunter all about the camp at Mt. Hood when you get back! He would snowboard 365 days/year if he could & he's been wanting to go there for the last 2 years!! Right after you tell him all about it, please give him some ideas for earning enough money himself so he can afford to go! ;) Enjoy!
